Rachel Chason, who double majors in biochemistry and molecular biology and English, has been named the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences’ 2024 Outstanding Senior. A review committee selected Chason based on her exceptional academic and service achievements and how her Arts and Sciences education has shaped the person she is today. Given her accomplishments and diverse areas of interest, Rachel demonstrates the college’s motto: “the difference is in the and.”
Chason is part of the Honors Program, a member of the National English Honors Society Sigma Tau Delta and has been named to the Dean’s List multiple semesters. She served as a companion visitor for hospice and youth hospital patients and as a volunteer at Children’s Hospital, where she spent time with newborns to adolescents. Her engagement with patients helped ease the burden of working parents unable to visit during daytime hours. As a mentee in the Marquette Mentors program, she connected with a local dentist to learn about dentistry, an essential step in pursuing her chosen career.
Chason is the 59th recipient of this award, the college’s oldest and most coveted annual award. This honor is given on the basis of academic record, service, leadership integrity and evidence of commitment to the ideas of a liberal arts education.
Chason, who will graduate at Marquette’s 143rd Commencement on Saturday, May 11, will begin dental school in the fall.
