Student researchers from Drs. Ed de St. Aubin and Astrida Kaugars’ labs recently presented their work at the Wisconsin Psychological Association and were awarded top prizes. WPA is the official state affiliate of the American Psychological Association.
Alma-Aliyah Tolson presented her work from de St. Aubin’s lab, “Exploring the Impact of Intergenerational Trauma on the Black Community Through the Lens of Black Psychotherapist,” and was awarded first place in the undergraduate student poster competition.
Sarah Hurst and Veronika Durek, both mentored by Kaugars, research intersectionalities with disabilities. Durek received second place for her poster on “Factors associated with instructor willingness to accommodate college students with invisible disabilities”, while Hurst presented work on, “Adverse childhood experiences and intellectual disabilities: A population-based comparison”. Hurst placed third.
In the graduate student poster competition, Betsy Miller (de St. Aubin) won first place with her project, “Intersectionality and Interactions with Dominant Narratives in the Life Stories of Three Black Lesbian Women.”
