The Marquette University Police Department on Tuesday, June 4, will test the university’s campus security management system, cCure, which allows MUPD to remotely and simultaneously lock all building access and interior door and elevator card readers in the event of an active shooter or other emergency situation. The annual test will begin at 10 a.m. on June 4 — at that time all building doors will be locked and card access will be denied to anyone trying to enter exterior building doors.
All elevators that are card-controlled will additionally be locked from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Those with mobility limitations are asked to be mindful of the restricted access to card-controlled elevators during this time.
Members of the university’s Crisis Management Committee, MUPD officers and volunteers will manually check exterior door access during the test. In an actual lockdown situation, such as an active shooter, only law enforcement will have access to open building doors.
MUPD will issue a safety alert text to campus 15 minutes prior to the test as a reminder. The test is expected to last about one hour; doors will be unlocked as soon as the test is complete after all exterior building doors are checked manually. The lockdown will not affect building egress — occupants may exit buildings during the test. A second safety alert text will be sent when the test is complete and doors reopen.
In compliance with fire codes, those inside buildings can exit during the test but will be unable to re-enter for the duration of the test.

Following are important points to know regarding the cCure system test:

- All card readers on campus will be locked during the test, affecting exterior and interior doors and elevators. Surface lot parking gates will be open during the test; however, parking structure gates will be closed.
- MUPD will issue a safety alert text to campus 15 minutes prior to the test as a reminder; a second safety alert text will be sent when the test is complete and doors reopen.
- During the test, MUPD officers, members of the Crisis Management Team and volunteers will manually check all exterior doors to ensure the system is working properly.
- The lockdown will not affect building egress — occupants may exit buildings during the test.
- Building occupants who will be arriving on campus during the test time should arrange with a coworker in their building to greet and let them in. Similarly, those who are expecting visitors or deliveries during the test time should greet their guests.
In the event of an actual lockdown, all of the 1,300 card readers on campus would be locked to non-police card users, affecting interior doors, elevators, turnstiles and parking gates.
