Join President Lovell and the campus community for Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge kickoff walk, April 18

Campus community encouraged to compete in challenge from April 18-May 2

President Michael R. Lovell and the campus community are again participating in the Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge, a virtual competition that promotes cancer prevention, encourages healthy activity at work and raises money for the American Cancer Society. Marquette’s goal is to raise $5,000, and all donations will be split between sarcoma research and health equity.

The challenge kicks off with the one-day CEO competition on Thursday, April 18, and runs through Thursday, May 9. As part of the opening day of the challenge, President Lovell will host an on-campus walk with the American Cancer Society April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The kickoff walk will begin in front of the Al McGuire Center. Join for two laps around the Marquette Mile before enjoying snacks and refreshments. No RSVP is required.

Follow along the rest of the day as President Lovell competes with leaders across the country to see who can go the furthest distance in 24 hours.

Participants in the three-week challenge will virtually compete by tracking activity in the MoveSpring app or on the MoveSpring website. The goal is to move 70 miles during this period. Participants can also reach motivational milestones along the way. Employees can compete with coworkers and also check the challenge leaderboard to see how Marquette compares to other companies.

How to sign up for the Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge

Steps are tracked through the MoveSpring app, which can be accessed by creating an account on app.movespring.com or by downloading the iOS or Android app.

  1. Click this join link. You’ll be navigated to the MoveSpring website or prompted to download the mobile app if you click the link from your mobile phone. It is ideal to download the app on your phone so you can connect your tracking device at the same time.
  2. Enter the following ORG code if/when prompted: marquette (not case sensitive), and then confirm Marquette University as the organization.
  3. Follow the steps to create your MoveSpring account and connect a fitness device if you have one.

Any type of activity can be recorded and then will be converted to steps and distance.

Once your account is created, you’ll automatically be added to the challenge. Then visit the Marquette gift challenge page, where you will have the opportunity to create your own gift challenge webpage to help Marquette reach our goal.

Although the Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge is separate from the My Wellness program challenges, the steps or activity completed during the challenge can be recorded for My Wellness points too. Steps can be automatically synced to the portal via your fitness device or manually uploaded to earn points. Daily movement can be manually tracked in the portal as well. Participation in the Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge can also be tracked as a My Wellness Your Way Experience for 10 points in the My Wellness portal
