Marquette Theatre to present ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,’ starting April 5

Marquette Theatre will present “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” by Stephen Sondheim from Friday, April 5, to Sunday, April 14, at the Evan P. and Marion Helfaer Theatre.

This excitingly dark musical by Sondheim tells the tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after 15 years of wrongful imprisonment to seek revenge against the judge who ruined his life. Assuming the pseudonym of Sweeney Todd, he forms a sinister partnership with his neighbor, Mrs. Lovett, selling “locally sourced” meat pies.

This show will run:

  • April 5, 6, 11-13 at 7:30 p.m.
  • April 7, 14 at 2:30 p.m.

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.
