The Les Aspin Center for Government will host a reception celebrating the Kleczka Milwaukee Internship Program on Wednesday, April 10, at 6 p.m. in AMU 227.
Inspired by former U.S. Congressman Jerry Kleczka’s desire, the Milwaukee internship program encourages students to participate in local public affairs and leadership. As a Milwaukee native, Rep. Kleczka wanted to ensure students had access to mentorship and hands-on experience that comes through low or unpaid internships. For over 20 years, the Kleczka Milwaukee Internship has placed students in local legislative offices and public affairs organizations coupled with classroom instruction and financial assistance.
Attendees will hear from Bonnie Kleczka about her late husband’s legacy and commitment to experiential learning, as well as from current and past Kleczka interns and local offices about their internship experiences and the transformative impact of Kleczka’s gift.
Complimentary appetizers, beer, wine and soda will be provided. Register online by Friday, April 5.
