Students, faculty and staff gathered at St. Joan of Arc Chapel Monday afternoon to offer prayer and penance for the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.

Rev. Deogratias Fikiri, S.J. presided over Monday’s Mass and an excerpt from his homily is below.

The disciples approached Jesus with a question that echoes through the corridors of time: “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus, in His infinite wisdom, responded not with a proclamation of power or grandeur but by calling forth a child, placing that child in their midst.“

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” The vulnerability, innocence, and unfiltered trust of a child — these are the qualities that Christ extols. In a nation where the unborn are at the mercy of human decisions, we are called to embrace the lowly position of the child, for, in doing so, we become the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
