Steve Blaha has been named interim director of Campus Ministry, Acting Vice President for Mission and Ministry Rev. John Thiede, S.J., announced today. Blaha, who most recently served as assistant director of Campus Ministry, succeeds Mary Sue Callan-Farley, who is no longer with the university. Blaha’s interim role is effective immediately.
Blaha, who has served as assistant director since 2007, earned his bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Marquette in 1996 and has a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Notre Dame. In his previous role, he was responsible for a variety of pastoral programs, including hall ministry, the Ignite program, Respect Life and sacramental preparation.
“In his more than 16 years as assistant director of Campus Ministry, Steve has shown a deep commitment to Marquette University and our Catholic, Jesuit mission and values,” Father Thiede said. “Steve demonstrates great respect for students and reverence for the importance that ministry plays in their daily lives.”
Prior to joining Marquette, Blaha served as pastoral associate at Milwaukee’s Christ King Parish in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Before that, he was director of campus ministry at St. Patrick High School in Chicago. Blaha also previously worked at Marquette as coordinator of student organizations and events. Rooted in Catholic tradition and inspired by the life and charism of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Campus Ministry works to meet the diverse spiritual needs and interests of Marquette’s student community. With partners across campus, in Milwaukee and worldwide, Campus Ministry engages Marquette students through worship, retreats, works of justice, anti-racism initiatives, reflection, interfaith dialogue and cross-cultural immersion.
