The Ott Memorial Writing Center invites the campus community to celebrate Ottoberfest 2023 in Raynor 240 and online from Monday, Oct. 2, through Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The Norman H. Ott Memorial Writing Center is a resource for all writers in the Marquette community and the surrounding Milwaukee neighborhood. The writing center is comprised of peer tutors — undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty from the humanities, sciences and social sciences — who act as conversational partners for writers in all disciplines.
There are plenty of ways for everyone — faculty, staff and students — to participate:
Otter Rewards: Pick up a stamp card, rack up Ottober appointments, and reap the rewards as a writer and a collector of Ott merch.
Instagram Raffle: Follow @marqwritingcenter, share its messages and enter the raffle.
Faculty and staff in instructional roles: Schedule a visit here to invite the Ott staff to your class or staff meeting.
All faculty and staff: You are also welcome to talk with Ott staff about your own writing, including your scholarship, grant applications, creative work and more.
You can also encourage students to join Ott programs:
- Undergrads can become Ott Scholars this Ottober by scheduling repeating, weekly or twice-monthly appointments at a dedicated time with a dedicated tutor. All Marquette undergrads can schedule an appointment here.
- English language learners can practice speaking and writing well weekly by joining the SWELL Program. All Marquette English language learners, undergrads and graduate students, can register here.
- Graduate students can keep their writing on track by joining the WrAP Program. All Marquette graduate students can join here.
Everyone can learn more by signing up for an informational appointment here.
Appointments at the Ott are free and run 30 to 60 minutes, either onsite or online. The Ott Memorial Writing Center is open Monday through Friday and Sundays.
