The Department of Political Science kicked off its year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of its political science major with an event on Thursday, Sept. 7, involving students and faculty.
The event, “The Past, Present, and Future of Political Science,” featured faculty and students discussing how political science has studied and taught about important past, current and future issues. They also discussed the unique experience of studying and teaching political science at Marquette University and the role of political science students and faculty in shaping positive change in the world.
At the event, the department was presented with a framed copy of an official commendation from the Milwaukee Common Council. The Common Council resolution highlighted that more than 5,000 students have majored in political science since 1923, praised the major as indispensable for students “who have gone on to work in every level of government, law, the nonprofit sector, the private sector, and academia, including many in the City of Milwaukee,” and thanked the political science major for “its positive impact on the Milwaukee community, the State of Wisconsin and beyond.”
The Department of Political Science will continue to have events throughout the 2023-24 academic year, including an on-campus event for alumni on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
