Three Marquette leaders named to BizTimes Milwaukee’s Notable Alumni list

BizTimes Milwaukee recently recognized two current Marquette employees and one professor emeritus on its inaugural Notable Alumni list, a feature profiling 51 alumni from colleges and universities in southeastern Wisconsin.

Receiving recognition were Tammy Belton-Davis, adjunct instructor of strategic communication in the Diederich College of Communication; Dr. Howard Fuller, distinguished professor emeritus of education in the College of Education; and Derek Mosley, director of the Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education.

Belton-Davis is an award-winning public relations and equity strategist, as well as the founder and principal of Athena Communications LLC. In addition to her role in the Diederich College of Communication, Belton-Davis is a member of the advisory council of Marquette’s Institute for Women’s Leadership. She is a 1993 graduate of Alverno College.

Fuller, who earned his doctorate degree at Marquette, has spent his career working to improve educational opportunities in Milwaukee for low-income children. He led Milwaukee County’s Department of Health and Human Services, served as superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools and founded his own school, a private voucher school known as CEO Leadership Academy. At Marquette, Fuller founded and directed the university’s Institute for the Transformation of Learning.

Mosley was named director of the Lubar Center in November 2022 after previously serving as Municipal Court Judge and an assistant district attorney for Milwaukee County. Mosley, a 1995 graduate of the Marquette University Law School, is a frequent speaker about unconscious bias and Black history.

Additional Marquette alumni were named to the list, including: Javier Alvarez, Kate Brewer, Kareeda Chones-Aguam, Laura Gutiérrez, Kyle Konieczka, Matt Neumann, José A. Olivieri, Rick Schmidt, Molly Schweiger, Billie Jean Smith and Max Stephenson.

Notable Alumni is part of BizTimes Milwaukee’s Notable series, which recognizes leaders in the southeastern Wisconsin business community.
