The Marquette Wire, the official student media news source of Marquette University, welcomes a new leadership team with the start of the academic year. Additionally, Director of Student Media Patrick Johnson has joined the Diederich College of Communication’s faculty as an alumnus and former adjunct instructor. The award-winning student media outlet brought 52 awards back to Marquette’s campus in 2022-23.
The Marquette Wire publishes content daily on its website as well as through its four mediums: The Marquette Tribune, Marquette Journal, MUTV and Marquette Radio.
Debuting in January 2014, the Marquette Wire brought together the campus newspaper, magazine, radio station, television station and advertising department to form a student-run multimedia outlet. The Marquette Wire covers issues that are relevant to students, faculty and staff, including campus life, higher education, university athletics and the Milwaukee area.
Hope Moses – executive editor of the Marquette Wire
Hope Moses is a senior from Milwaukee studying journalism and peace studies. Prior to this position, she served as the editor of diversity and inclusion for the organization and the inaugural Foley Fellow for the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. This summer, she interned at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and is now a reporting intern for the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism. She is excited to lead in a way that highlights the importance of student media across campus and have a little fun along the way.
Grace Cady – managing editor of the Marquette Journal
Grace Cady is a senior from Delafield, Wisconsin, studying Journalism and political science. Prior to this position, she served on the Opinions desk. Outside of the Wire, she attended the Les Aspin program in spring 2023, interned at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this summer and is now a reporting intern for the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism. She is excited for “the collaborative endeavor that is the Journal and bringing imagination to life!”
Megan Woolard – managing editor of the Marquette Tribune
Megan Woolard is a senior from Portland, Oregon, studying journalism and English literature and will serve as the managing editor of the Marquette Tribune for the second year. She is excited to continue advancing the mission of independent student media and spending time with friends at the Wire. In her free time, she enjoys collecting CDs and going to Brewers games.
Nancy Flaherty – general manager of Marquette University Television
Nancy Flaherty is a senior from Watertown, South Dakota, studying public relations and corporate communications. Prior to this position, she served as the executive social media producer and anchor coach for the organization. She is “proud to be a part of such a dynamic branch” and said “you can find me answering emails, helping edit scripts and rattling off various pop culture facts to my coworkers in the newsroom on any given day!”
Sam Baughn – general manager of Marquette Radio
Sam Baughn is a senior from Stoughton, Wisconsin, studying digital media and English. Prior to this position, he was the assistant music producer and a volunteer DJ. In addition to listening to music, he enjoys baking, reading, and collecting vinyl records. He is excited to expand Marquette Radio’s programming and collaborative projects across the Wire.
Phoebe Goebel – editor of diversity and inclusion
Phoebe Goebel is a junior from Hinsdale, Illinois, studying journalism and literature. Prior to this position, she worked on the Wire’s Arts and Entertainment desk. She is excited to work with all branches of the Wire and have the chance to expand the role of diversity within college student media.
