Dear Marquette community,
It is with great sadness that I share that a Marquette University dental student passed away last evening at their residence. Our priority during this sad time is to honor the family’s wishes, so at this time, the university is not sharing the student’s name or additional details about cause of death. We will provide more information, as well as details about a potential memorial service, if that aligns with the family’s wishes.
Those who knew the student share that they were a leader with a bright future. We grieve with their family and friends as well as fellow faculty, staff and students here on campus who were touched by the student’s time in our community.
One loss among our community is a loss to us all. Each of you matters and is an important part of our campus community.
Counseling services and pastoral support are available on campus for all faculty, staff and students. Members of the university’s Counseling Center and Campus Ministry are available to provide support services for coping with grief and loss, and the Marquette Employee Assistance Program is available 24/7 for all employees and members of their households. Additional support is being provided to School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students today, including on-site counselors and pastoral care, and quiet space for reflection and processing.
University leadership and Mission and Ministry staff are in touch with the family and offering every available resource.
As a university community, we offer our prayers and deepest sympathy for our student’s family and friends. I ask that you please check in with your classmates, loved ones, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. May God bless you and the entire Marquette community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael R. Lovell
President
