Sobelman’s @ Marquette to close; university appreciates 12 years of partnership

Marquette University has confirmed with the restaurant’s owners that Sobelman’s @ Marquette 16th St. and Wells St. has chosen not to renew its lease; the location will close permanently on Sunday, May 21. The Sobelman’s Pub and Grill location at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave. will remain open and continue serving the Marquette community.

“Sobelman’s has been a wonderful part of the campus community and Near West Side neighborhood for more than 12 years,” said Jenny Alexander, director of purchasing at Marquette. “During that time, they have supported our students and staff with quality food and fundraising support, in addition to jobs and a welcoming location where friends can take time to visit over a great burger. Although it is sad to see them leave our campus, we can feel comfort in the fact that their care for Marquette students carries on and they will continue to operate the original Sobelman’s on St. Paul, just blocks from our campus.

“A special heartfelt thank you to Lynda, Melanie and Dave—you always tried your best and we appreciate it!”

Sobelman’s will be hosting a final celebration on May 21 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Until then, the restaurant will be open Wednesday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
