Men’s basketball team to be honored by Milwaukee leaders, April 11

Milwaukee leaders will come together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Marquette men’s basketball team during the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center (1531 W. Vliet St.). 

City of Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson, community organizations and other community members will host Marquette, Head Coach Shaka Smart, his staff and the team. The event will feature special recognitions and proclamations. 

This past season, the team secured its first ever outright BIG EAST Conference regular season title and its first BIG EAST Tournament championship in Smart’s second year. The Golden Eagles earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the highest the program has ever secured. Smart was named the conference’s coach of the year, guard Tyler Kolek was named the conference’s best player in the regular season and tournament, and David Joplin was named the conference’s sixth man of the year.
