Street traffic changes to begin on 16th, 17th streets; demolition to Rec Center will start next month

To accommodate demolition and construction activity for Marquette’s reimagined Wellness + Recreation facility at the site of the now shuttered Helfaer Tennis Stadium and Recreation Center (Rec Center) on the southwestern edge of campus, motorists will experience traffic pattern changes on 16th and 17th streets starting Monday, March 27.

Crews will begin installing concrete barriers and fencing, which will impact traffic on both throughways. Motorists should watch for flaggers and new traffic control devices and are asked to exercise caution when traveling these streets and plan commutes to and from campus accordingly.

Exterior demolition to the Rec Center is scheduled to start Monday, April 3. Expect increased noise in the immediate area during this time.
