Marquette University’s top 9 most-liked Instagram photos of 2022

As 2023 kicks off, take a look back at the photos that resonated with the Marquette community on Instagram in 2022.

No. 9: Sunset over Milwaukee

This photo, taken by Nate Vomhof, was posted on Jan. 31 to celebrate Milwaukee’s 176th birthday and received over 3,100 likes in 2022.⁠

No. 8: President Lovell’s first haircut since he began his treatment

These photos were shared on June 22 after President Michael R. Lovell received his first haircut in nine months following treatment for sarcoma, a form of cancer. The photos received over 3,200 likes in 2022.

No. 7: Moving forward with a fully reimagined Wellness + Recreation facility

Marquette will move forward later this month with the planned renovation and construction of a fully reimagined, comprehensive Wellness + Recreation facility at the current location of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium and Recreation Center. This photo, a rendering of the planned facility, was posted on Dec. 7 and received over 3,600 likes in 2022.

No. 6: Snowy days on campus

This photo, a part of a collection of shots of campus during a snowy final week of classes, was posted on Dec. 9 and received over 3,600 likes in 2022.

No. 5: Commencement 2022

Marquette’s 2022 Commencement ceremonies took place on May 22, with 1,942 undergraduates, 837 Master’s recipients and 76 Ph.D. recipients celebrating at Summerfest’s American Family Insurance Amphitheater. A collection of photos were shared that afternoon and received over 3,680 likes in 2022.

No. 4: Remembering McCormick Hall

We remembered McCormick Hall, which housed students from 1967 to 2019, when this photo was posted on Sept. 20. The photo received over 3,900 likes in 2022.

No. 3: USL Championship is coming to Milwaukee

Milwaukee will be home to the newest expansion franchise in the USL Championship, the second-highest tier of professional soccer in the U.S. The team will play at the future home of Marquette men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse. This photo, a rendering of the future facility, was posted on Oct. 19 and received over 4,800 likes in 2022.

No. 2: Dwyane Wade announced as undergraduate Commencement speaker

Dwyane Wade, a three-time NBA champion, Olympic gold medalist and one of the 75 greatest players in NBA history who led Marquette to the Final Four in 2003, served as Marquette’s undergraduate Commencement speaker on May 22. This photo, posted alongside the announcement on April 28, received over 5,200 likes in 2022.

No. 1: Dwyane Wade speaks at Commencement

Dwyane Wade shared his journey and celebrated with graduates while receiving his honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Marquette during the undergraduate Commencement ceremony on May 22. This photo was posted that afternoon and received over 5,900 likes in 2022.
