Celebrate Thanksgiving with a free meal with the campus community

November 8, 2022

By Alex Nemec, marketing communications specialist, Office of University Relations

Campus Ministry is inviting campus community members who are choosing to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday here in Milwaukee to join in a free Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Cobeen Hall.

Campus Ministry’s Thanksgiving meal has been a Marquette tradition since the 1950s when the late Rev. William McEvoy, S.J., began offering the meal in the basement of the Dental School. Since 1977, this meal has been endowed by a gift from the family of Dr. Walter F. Hoffman, D.D.S. — a Marquette Dental School alumnus.

A Thanksgiving meal with turkey and all the favorite sides and desserts will be served.

“Campus Ministry has had the pleasure and privilege of hosting the annual Thanksgiving meal for years and it is one of the happiest times of the year on campus,” Campus Ministry Director Mary Sue Callan-Farley says. “We welcome anyone in the campus community to join us for a day of community and delicious food to kick off the holiday season.”

“Campus Ministry has had the pleasure and privilege of hosting the annual Thanksgiving meal for years in partnership with Sodexo. It is a time when diverse members of campus come together: the RA or desk attendant on call; the international graduate student and family; a student who from too far away to return home for the holiday; or a faculty member doing research,” Campus Ministry Director Mary Sue Callan-Farley says. “We welcome anyone in the campus community to join us for a delicious meal to kick off the holiday season.”

Additionally, volunteers are needed to help staff the event. Volunteers are needed to welcome people, serve food and wash and transition tables.

To register for the meal, sign up here. Please register by Thursday, Nov. 24.
