October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence is prevalent in every neighborhood and affects people regardless of age, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, race or nationality.

This month, the Near West Side Partners’ Promoting Assets and Reducing Crime team is partnering with on-campus and community stakeholders to raise awareness of and prevent domestic violence by providing resources, support and violent relationship identification strategies to students and the wider community.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, wear purple to stand with victims and hold abusers accountable.

If you recognize signs of an abusive relationship and need help, know there is a strong community supporting you. Speak with someone today at The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or www.TheHotline.org.
