Marquette ranked No. 19 nationally for social media engagement

October 6, 2022

Marquette has been recognized for its social media performance, ranking No. 19 in social media engagement in Rival IQ’s 2022 Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report.

The report looked at the Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok accounts for the 358 NCAA Division I colleges and universities between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022, and generated an overall engagement ranking for each school that blends total engagement and engagement rates.

The top-ranked colleges and universities on social media have high engagement rates with average or better audience size and posting volumes.

Marquette rated highly among peer institutions as the top-ranked university of the four Division I universities in Wisconsin, the 20 AJCU schools and the 11-school BIG EAST Conference. By platform, the university’s Facebook presence was its highest-rated social media account at No. 18, while the @MarquetteU Twitter account was No. 31. Marquette is ranked No. 67 for its @MarquetteU Instagram account and cracked the top-100 at No. 98 with a relatively new @MarquetteU TikTok account.

“Social media is an invaluable tool in sharing the Marquette experience through unique storytelling and engagement with our students,” said Paul Jones, vice president for university relations at Marquette. “We are not just connecting with future students on their platforms, but also with our nearly 120,000 alumni and the rest of a very proud and vocal Marquette community. To see how we rate among our Division I peers is great recognition of the hard work of our social media staff and interns, led by Enrique Torruco, assistant director of social media.”

In 2021, Marquette was ranked No. 20 in the Rival IQ’s report, a 21-place improvement from 2020 (No. 41). Over the last year, the university saw notable increases in engagement with a nearly 31% increase in engagements across all platforms and a 18% jump in engagement rate per impression. The total audience grew by just over five percent in that time. Marquette now has over 63,600 followers on Facebook; 50,300 on Twitter; 41,500 on Instagram; and is approaching 1,800 followers on TikTok, which launched in April 2021 and was new to the Rival IQ report this year.

Rival IQ is a social media analytics toolkit launched in 2012 with a focus on making social media data easier to find, analyze, and act upon for its clients. Rival IQ is a NetBase Quid company.
