The eighth annual James W. Foley Freedom 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15. While the traditional 5K Run/Walk is being held at the newly named James W. Foley Community Center in Rochester, New Hampshire, thousands of runners around the world will have the opportunity to participate “virtually” by joining a local team.
The “Marquette Runs for Jim” team will gather on Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. near the St. Joan of Arc Chapel. Participants will walk or run around the Marquette Mile in remembrance of Foley, a conflict journalist, educator and proud Marquette alumnus. Three loops around the Marquette Mile equals a 5K, though participants can decide their own distance.
Register online to participate. When registering, join the Marquette Runs for Jim Team and use the discount code “MarquetteU22” to take part for $15, a savings of $25. If you are unable to participate, a donation is humbly requested.
Participants receive a Foley Freedom Run t-shirt and snacks and refreshments, including craft soda from Sprecher and stick packs from ZYN, will be provided.
All proceeds support the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation’s mission to bring Americans held hostage home and to promote the safety of journalists worldwide. The Foley Foundation was created in 2014 to honor the legacy of James Foley, a 1996 graduate of Marquette and a freelance journalist who was captured and beheaded by ISIS in Syria in 2014.
