Join the Briggs & Al’s Run and Walk, Sept. 17

September 1, 2022

An icon graphic representing Social Responsibility Through Community Engagement from the Beyond Boundries Strategic PlanJoin fellow Marquette community members for the 45th annual Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk starting at 10 a.m. on Marquette’s campus on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The run and walk starts at 12th Street and Wisconsin Avenue and ends at Maier Festival Park (Summerfest grounds). When signing up, participants may choose between the 8k wheelchair route, the 8k runner route, or the 3 or 5-mile walker routes. Those in wheelchairs will start the run and walk at 10:15 a.m., runners begin at 10:30 a.m. and walkers follow immediately after runners.

Those interested can visit alsrun.com to register. To join Marquette’s team, click “Join a Team” on the registration page and search “Marquette.” Use code “MARQUETTE” at checkout for 25% off your registration.

Founded by legendary Marquette men’s basketball coach Al McGuire, the event has become a Milwaukee tradition and a powerful symbol of support for Wisconsin kids. The money raised over this event’s 44-year legacy — totaling more than $21 million — directly impacts the care Children’s Wisconsin provides and helps them give kids the best in every way possible.

Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk is one of Children’s most important fundraisers with 100% of proceeds supporting the care Children’s provides, both in the hospital and in the community. More information is available online.

All registrants will receive free access to the post-run celebration, taking place on the Summerfest grounds, where you can enjoy free food and entertainment.

Volunteers needed

Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk is looking for about 50 volunteers to serve as sentries. The volunteer shift will last from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will stand at various locations along the route while directing runners and walkers in the right direction and monitoring driveways and garages to ensure cars don’t pull out onto the street mid-race.

Those interested should either complete volunteer registration online or, if volunteering in a large group, fill out this Excel spreadsheet with all volunteer information and email it to cbevec@childrenswi.org.
