Celebrate National Good Neighbor Day with the Near West Side

An icon graphic representing Social Responsibility Through Community Engagement from the Beyond Boundries Strategic PlanWednesday, Sept. 28, is National Neighbor Day, and there is no better way to celebrate than to recognize our own good neighbors.

In partnership with Near West Side Partners, the Center for Peacemaking has worked to renew Good Neighbor Designations throughout Milwaukee’s Near West Side. The Good Neighbor Designation recognizes properties that are operated by owners and managers who do excellent work within the community and continuously make the Near West Side a great place to live, work, play and stay.

Recipients receive good neighbor standing by maintaining their buildings above the minimum standard required by law and for proactive contributions to the safety, security and aesthetics of the Near West Side. The properties agree to an on-site survey as well as follow a list of extensive assessment criteria for the designation.

As an incentive for good neighbor standing, each designated property receives a yard sign as well as a feature badge on RentCollegePads. This way, when Marquette University students and neighborhood residents decide to rent housing in the Near West Side, the good neighbor designees stand out.
