Marquette community, families, friends invited to Mass of the Holy Spirit, Welcome Back Picnic on Aug. 28

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends are formally invited to attend the Mass of the Holy Spirit in celebration of the new academic year at the Church of the Gesu. Please join us in coming together as a prayer community on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 4:30 p.m.

Marquette will join in a centuries-old tradition with all Jesuit schools across the world invoking the Holy Spirit upon our community with prayer, song and ritual.

At Mass, we will ask the Holy Spirit to imbue all our endeavors for the coming year with its fruits and gifts.

Rev. Jim Voiss, S.J., will preside at the Mass, with other members of the Marquette Jesuit Community concelebrating.

“As we begin a new academic year and welcome a new class of freshmen on campus, we’re blessed to have this opportunity to come together as a community to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our efforts this year,” Father Voiss says. “All members of the Marquette Community are welcome to this celebration.”

Following the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the Welcome Back Picnic will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Eckstein Common — between the Alumni Memorial Union and Schroeder Hall.

The picnic will include Johnsonville brats, hamburgers, Incogmeato Tacos, ice cream sandwiches, cookies, Pop’s Kettle Corn and Pepsi products. There will also be a DJ, games and more.
