Search for the next permanent dean of nursing extended

After a seven-month search process, including several candidate interviews, the search committee to identify the next permanent dean of the College of Nursing will extend its search, Provost Kimo Ah Yun announced today. Acting Dean Jill Guttormson, Ph.D., MS, RN will continue in her role through the search process, and Dr. Lisa Hanson, professor of nursing, will continue to chair the search committee.

“The College of Nursing is poised for strategic growth and a move to their new home at Straz Hall in the next few years, and it is imperative that we identify the best candidate to lead the college and drive its strategic plan,” Provost Ah Yun said. “I am grateful to Dr. Guttormson for her ongoing leadership, and I have great confidence that the search committee will identify an exceptional slate of candidates in the coming months.”

University leaders have shared a vision and strategic plan to add an additional 200 undergraduate nurses to the College of Nursing over a four-year period once its new facility opens in 2024. The College of Nursing’s growth, which also includes adding more than 400 additional graduate students in the past five years through an accelerated direct-entry MSN program, is filling a critical societal need in the city, region and nation.
