Engineering student Maxwell Dixon to deliver 2022 undergraduate Commencement address

Maxwell Dixon, a mechanical engineering major in the Opus College of Engineering, has been selected as the 2022 undergraduate student Commencement speaker. The Michael J. Cudahy Engineering Scholar and Marquette University High School graduate was among the first cohort of students in Marquette University’s Ready to Inspire Success and Excellence (RISE) program, a multicultural pre-orientation geared to incoming first-year students of color.

During his time at Marquette, Dixon has served as an Engineering Student Ambassador, Alumni Ambassador and a RISE Summer Program Student Leader. A member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Human Powered Vehicle Team, Dixon has also participated in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee BMO Scholars Program, and he has volunteered his time with the Wisconsin Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America.

Dixon was awarded Marquette’s Contemplative in Action Leadership Award for his continuous involvement, dedication and leadership within the RISE program and the Center for Engagement and Inclusion.

Marquette University will host two Commencement ceremonies — one for undergraduate students and one for Graduate School and Graduate School of Management students — on Sunday, May 22, at Summerfest’s American Family Insurance Amphitheater. The undergraduate ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.; the Graduate School and Graduate School of Management ceremony will start at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies will be livestreamed via the Commencement 2022 website.
