Westlawn Gardens clean-up for Day of Service and Earth Day is April 23

An icon graphic representing Sustainability of Valuable Resources from the Beyond Boundries Strategic PlanJoin the residents of Westlawn Gardens on Saturday, April 23, to prep their community garden for spring planting as a part of Marquette’s Day of Service and Earth Day.

Westlawn Gardens is a community that provides subsidized housing to Milwaukee residents who are veterans, people with disabilities and people living on low incomes. The residents of Westlawn Gardens are dedicated to growing their own fresh food in their community garden. The neighborhood that surrounds WLG is a food desert, so the garden serves as a vital source of fresh produce for the community.

Volunteering for garden cleanup includes a t-shirt and lunch for everyone who registers. Students, families, friends, faculty and kids are welcome.

Register online by Wednesday, April 6.

Please choose MARQUETTE STUDENT when registering. Adults who bring children must supervise them throughout the project. The project will include moving compost, adding compost to gardens, clearing garden boxes of weeds for vegetables and fruits to be planted, painting nameplate signs and sanitizing tools/spaces.
