Marquette statement on the Kyle Rittenhouse case verdict

November 19, 2021

Dear Marquette community,

With respect for our nation’s criminal justice system, we acknowledge the jury’s not guilty findings in the state’s case against Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, and also recognize that this decision is painful to some members of our community.

As an engaged community guided by our Catholic, Jesuit tradition, we want all who are hurting to know that our campus is a safe place for respectful dialogue and reflection on topics of social and racial justice.

If you need support at this time, please reach out and connect with the resources below that may be of help to you.

We ask you all to please continue to work toward true justice for all by defending the dignity of every human life and a commitment to nonviolence.

Respectfully yours,

Dr. Joya Crear
Acting Vice President for Inclusive Excellence

Rev. James Voiss, S.J.
Vice President for Mission and Ministry
