Near West Side Partners hosts community events this week

October 14, 2021

Join Near West Side Partners at the following events this week:

The Complete Streets Community Advisory Group Kickoff: Thursday, Oct. 14, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Milwaukee’s streets are public spaces that should be safe and welcoming to everyone, no matter where they live or how they travel. We know that this vision is not a reality, and in order to change it, the City of Milwaukee is developing a Complete Streets Handbook that will include guidelines and policies to make streets more safe, enjoyable and equitable. Collaboration is necessary to make sure the handbook reflects the entire city, and that safety, racial justice and social equity are at the forefront of the policies included in the handbook.

This is the first of up to four community advisory group meetings that the city will host. Register online.

The city is also offering a limited number of stipends for organizations or individuals who would not be able to participate without financial support. Please let them know if you are interested in receiving a stipend on the registration form.

Near West Side Beautification Day: Friday, Oct. 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help carry forward projects to beautify the community. Projects include landscaping and planting, lawn and garden maintenance and public art installation.

Register online.

The event will be held at the Near West Side Waypoint Station, 1201 North 35th Street (on the Harley-Davidson campus), from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. All volunteers are welcome to join in a celebratory happy hour at Triciclo Peru after the event.

Vliet Street Pumpkin Patch: Saturday, Oct. 16, from noon to 3 p.m.

Stop by the Vliet Street Oasis Market, 3743 W. Vliet Street, for some fall family fun. Paint and take home a free pumpkin, test your skills at pumpkin bowling and enjoy free hot cider.
