Faculty and student honored with ‘Best Abstract Award’ at National Convention for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America

Drs. Dora Clayton-Jones, assistant professor of nursing; Lee Za Ong, assistant professor of counselor education and counseling psychology; Abir Bekhet, professor of nursing; Kristin Haglund, professor of nursing and Rev. John Raynor Chair; and master’s in nursing student Emily Beltran, along with their community partners, were honored with the “Best Abstract Award” during the 49th Annual National Convention for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. 

Their abstract, “During COVID-19, Sickle Cell Continues: A Photovoice Project to Understand the Perspectives of Young Adults,” was a research project supported by the College of Nursing Frenn Award, the College of Nursing, the Marquette Community of Practice Public Health and Equity Fellows’ Program and the Office of Economic Engagement Community Engaged Research Partnership Award. It was awarded within the COVID-19 category.
