Beyond Boundaries strategic priorities outlined for 2021-22

October 18, 2021

University leaders have identified five strategic priorities for 2021-22 to help us achieve Beyond Boundaries, Marquette’s strategic plan.

Importantly, the priorities are not to the exclusion of all the great work being done to execute on our strategic plan — rather, they bring a unified focus to key areas where Marquette can advance its goals and Catholic, Jesuit mission.

Each priority aligns with one or more of the Strategic Plan Themes: Pursuit of Academic Excellence for Human Well-being, Research in Action, A Culture of Inclusion, Social Responsibility through Community Engagement, Formation of Hearts and Minds, and Sustainability of Valuable Resources. The strategic priorities include:

Student Success
Support undergraduate student retention, graduation, and first destination outcomes, including increasing the six-year graduation rate and the year 1-2 retention rate.

Themes: Pursuit of Academic Excellence; Culture of Inclusion; Formation of Hearts and Minds

Research
Increase research and development expenditures and federal funding of research and advance interdisciplinary research communities and partnerships, among them, research initiatives in water resiliency; poverty in the greater Milwaukee community; and COVID-19 in southeast Wisconsin.

Themes: Research in Action; Social Responsibility

Enrollment
Expand student market share, enhance financial aid packages, and increase excitement as we introduce a new admission notification date in December in place of rolling admissions.

Themes: Pursuit of Academic Excellence; Culture of Inclusion

Graduate and Online Programs
Expand our portfolio of online, flexible, and blended/hybrid program offerings, evolve our graduate programs and grow accelerated degree programs — all to meet the emerging expectations and demand of students

Theme: Pursuit of Academic Excellence

Stewardship of Resources
Continue to ensure faculty and staff levels are aligned with student needs and enrollment, ensure strategic spending controls, make the best and highest use of our space as part of the campus master plan, and focus fundraising momentum to advance our greatest needs.

Theme: Sustainability of Valuable Resources
