Two new required online diversity, equity and inclusion training programs were recently announced, one of which is a training program for new students titled “Brave and Bold Dialogues: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – College Edition.”
The program is an interactive, one-hour online course exploring real-life scenarios designed to increase awareness and understanding while building foundational knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion.
The course will culminate with guest speaker Rasheed Ali Cromwell, Esq., founder and president of The Harbor Institute, who will provide a live workshop on Friday, Aug. 27. New Students will attend the workshop with their Orientation groups at either 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. in the Varsity Theatre.
As a practicing attorney, speaker, trainer and consultant Cromwell presents dynamic keynote speeches and interactive training sessions for thousands of students and administrators at more than 260 colleges around the country. He utilizes his legal, academic and entrepreneurial expertise to focus on cultural competency, empowerment, student success, hazing prevention, intervention and leadership development.
At a time when constructive dialogue and healthy exchange is necessary, many people find themselves at a disadvantage. There is a general baseline of knowledge and understanding that is necessary in order to foster civility and promote diversity. Unfortunately, this general baseline, or lack thereof, is often clouded with unsubstantiated rhetoric and “small minded” thinking that does not promote unity.
Changing the longstanding narrative of division and oppression requires actively embracing diversity, equity and inclusion. The recognition, acknowledgment and respect this requires takes consistent work. The powerful combination of e-learning “Brave and Bold Dialogues” and its in-person workshop creates the constructive and critical dialogue that inspires and implements change.
