Marquette University mourns the loss of Dr. Robert Shuter, former professor in the Diederich College of Communication. Robert passed away on Tuesday, May 4, at the age of 75.

Robert worked in the college from 1973-2015. Most recently, he was a professor emeritus in communication studies and director of the Center for Intercultural New Media Research. He will be missed greatly by his colleagues.

“I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Bob Shuter. He was such a part of the fabric of the College of Communication at Marquette,” said Dr. Sarah Feldner, dean of the college. “Our prayers are with family and friends in this difficult time.”

“Dr. Shuter has been significant in every aspect of my life — from student to entrepreneur to faculty member,” said Sheena Carey, internship coordinator/lecturer in the college. “Sometimes in front of my students, I find myself mimicking his mannerisms or a particular turn of phrase. His presence is always felt and he will be deeply missed.”

A committal service will be held on Monday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 North Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL. More information is online.

Please keep Robert, his family and friends in prayer.
