English department to host virtual open house and ‘Six-Word Short-Story Contest,’ April 6

The Department of English will host a virtual open house on Tuesday, April 6, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with students and faculty in the English department and learn more about its course programs and offerings.

Attendees will also be able to read and vote for their favorite short stories in the “Six Word Short Story Contest.”

Ernest Hemingway helped create a genre—the six-word short story—with the words: “For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn.”

All members of the Marquette community are invited to submit their own six-word short stories. Writers can submit one or multiple stories (limit of five). Winning entries will be published on social media; the top three entries will win prizes.

Submit stories via the online form by Tuesday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m.

To RSVP for the open house, email Dr. Melissa Ganz, associate professor of English and director of strategy. A link to join will be sent upon registration.
