New campus mural to celebrate diversity and racial equity; vote for your favorite proposal by this Friday

Marquette faculty, staff and students are invited to vote for a new mural to be installed on the north-facing facade of the Varsity Theater/Holthusen Hall building. The three mural proposals are shown below and can be voted on via the Haggerty Museum’s website.

Online voting is available Monday, Sept. 7, through Friday, Sept. 11, at 11:59 p.m. Please note you must be logged into your Marquette Microsoft 365 account to vote.

A Mural Committee comprised of representatives from MUSG, the Executive Leadership Team, the Cultural Audit sub-group of the Equity and Inclusion Committee, the Haggerty Museum of Art and University Advancement invited seven local Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) male and female artists to submit proposals.

After careful review, proposals by artists Brad BernardKen Brown and Mauricio Ramirez have been submitted for consideration. Marquette community members will be invited to participate in a virtual listening session with the winning artist. The artist will then incorporate that feedback into the final mural design.

The mural will be installed in October, and the campus community will be invited to participate in several subsequent virtual programs with the artist and Haggerty Museum of Art staff.
