‘Keeping it real: How to have crucial conversations about race’ is Sept. 14

The Diederich College of Communication will host a webinar series titled “Diederich Dialogues,” which will tackle issues of diversity, inclusion, social justice and equity.  

The first session “Keeping it real: How to have crucial conversations about race,” is Monday, Sept. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. This webinar will examine how communicators can help bridge divides through deliberate, intentional discourse.

The webinar will be moderated by Ron Smith, editor/project director of the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service and instructor of practice of journalism and media studies.

Panelists include 

  • Sheena Carey, internship coordinator/lecturer for Marquette’s Diederich College of Communication
  • Bevin Christie, a Sherman Park resident who is active in community issues surrounding race and equity
  • Rick Deines, founder of the Zeidler Group and a conversation facilitator with The Zeidler Center for Public Discussion; Deines often writes about race for the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service  
  • Lisa Osborne Ross, Jour ’84, chief operating officer at Edelman
