Deb Weaver honored with Excellence in University Service Award

June 10, 2020

Deb Weaver is the administrative assistant for undergraduate programs and department inquiries in the Department of Biological Sciences in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. She is one of four staff members to receive a 2020 Excellence in University Service Award.

Inspired by their integrity, kindness, exceptional work ethic and strong affinity for “doing the right thing,” Deb sought to model her life after her father and grandfather.

Those who have gotten the chance to work with Deb over the course of her 42-year career at Marquette will say that Deb, who self-identifies as the “mother hen” and “butt kicker” of the office, has done just that.

Deb’s colleagues know her as a caring, unwavering support system to arts and sciences faculty, with a vested interest in enhancing the educational experience for students and paving the way for success.

One person who nominated Deb for the award wrote: “Deb has continually gone above and beyond her job duties to ensure that students, faculty and staff are taken care of. Her years of service have made her a wealth of institutional knowledge and (she) is often where faculty, students and members across campus go to when information is not easily found.”

Sentiments underscoring Deb’s tireless efforts to help others and better the college, such as working weekends and after hours to ensure faculty meet deadlines, are echoed across more than a dozen award nominations submitted by her coworkers. Several colleagues wrote, “Deb always puts Marquette first.”

Deb noted that her office is a dog friendly department, especially during the summer months.

Candidly, Deb says if she executes her job correctly by anticipating the needs of others, no one should know she is there. Ironically, the testimonies of her peers prove Deb’s dedication to her job, positive attitude, sense of humor and unmatched department expertise make her a sought-after professional, advocate and friend.
