The Haggerty Art Museum will host a visual art therapy presentation and Q&A session titled “The Embodied Response: The Feeling of Viewing Form” on Tuesday, May 19, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Presented by Dr. Christopher M. Belkofer, director of the graduate art therapy program at Mount Mary University, this lecture will revisit philosopher Susanne Langer’s seminal work, “Feeling and Form: A Theory of Art” (1953) through the lens of contemporary relational aesthetics, neuroscience and art therapy theories. This lecture will explore how art promotes interoceptive knowing and the phenomenon and therapeutic potentials of how pieces of art evoke sensations, thoughts, and feelings in the mind and the body.
Register via Eventbrite. Participants will be sent a link after registering.
