Athletics leaders honored with Big East and Under Armour awards

Bill Scholl, vice president and director of athletics, and Megan Duffy, head women’s basketball coach, were both recently honored for their outstanding leadership.

Scholl, who has worked at Marquette since 2014, received an Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year Award, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced on March 3.

Scholl is one of 28 athletics directors recognized across seven divisions, but one of just four in the Division I-AAA category. Under Armour has sponsored the award for the past 12 years and over 276 different athletics directors have been honored with the award during that time.

“Bill Scholl puts the student experience first in every decision, making him very deserving of this recognition,” President Michael R. Lovell said. “Through his genuine understanding of intercollegiate athletics and leadership, Bill is fully integrating his department in our university while selflessly serving others.”

Duffy joined Marquette in April 2019. She received the 2020 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Award in her first season with the university.

Formerly the head coach at Miami University in Ohio, Duffy has led Marquette through a successful 2019-20 season, winning 22 games in the regular season. The women’s basketball team is the second seed for the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. They will take on DePaul tonight at 7 p.m.

Duffy’s players also received post-season awards this season, including Selena Lott, who was named to the all-conference second team, and Camryn Taylor, who was named to the all-freshman team.
