Marquette University mourns the loss of Dr. Stephen Byers

Marquette University mourns the loss of Dr. Stephen Byers, who served as an assistant professor of journalism and student media adviser in the Diederich College of Communication. He was 81.

Stephen worked for the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for more than three decades as a columnist, reporter and section editor. He joined Marquette in 2004 and served as student media advisor until 2013.

Together with his wife, Genevieve G. McBride, he co-authored the book, “Dear Mrs. Griggs: Women pour out their hearts from the heartland.”

A full obituary is available online. Visitation was held on Friday, June 7, and a service followed a day later at Jerusalem Presbyterian Church in Wales, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research would be appreciated.
