Grief resources available for Marquette community

As the Marquette community grieves the passing of President Michael R. Lovell, the university wants all who are coping with this loss to know that there are spiritual and mental health resources available to help.

  • A campus prayer vigil will be held Monday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Joan of Arc Chapel. A prayer will be offered every hour by a member of our community. The vigil is open to all members of the campus community; staff from Mission and Ministry will be present.
  • Additionally, there will be a journal available at the St. Joan of Arc Chapel all day Monday, June 10, for those who wish to share a memory of President Lovell and/or write a message to the Lovell family.
  • Also, blue and gold ribbons will be available on which to write a prayer or share a thought or memory. The ribbons will be collected and affixed to a cross that is, in part, built from the pre-renovation St. Joan of Arc outdoor benches. The journal and ribbons will be available for signing from Tuesday, June 11, through Thursday, June 13, in the Alumni Memorial Union near the information desk.
  • A rosary will be said for President Lovell June 10 at 4 p.m. and Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at the Marian Grotto behind the St. Joan of Arc Chapel.
  • Noon Masses will be offered daily at the St. Joan of Arc Chapel, Tuesday, June 11, through Friday, June 14. The campus community is invited to take part in Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration on Wednesday, June 12, at the chapel immediately following Mass until 2 p.m.
  • For faculty and staff, a counselor will be on site from Marquette’s Employee Assistance Program June 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in AMU 252. No appointment is needed. EAP counselors are always available 24/7 at 1-800-634-6433 or through the website. Use password: MU1.
  • Marquette Counseling Center staff will be available for students, for drop-in visits and by appointment, in Holthusen Hall; visit or call 414-288-7172. The Counseling Center is staffed in-person 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the week and counselors are available 24/7 via phone.

During this time of loss and heartbreak, please reach out to check on each other, support one another and grieve together.
