The Center for Student Wellness and Health Promotion invites the Marquette community to participate and encourage others to participate in Sexual Assault Awareness Month events during April.
Many of these events lead up to Denim Day on Wednesday, April 26. On this day, there will be a one-mile, silent march around campus starting at 10 a.m. in Central Mall. If you are not able to attend, please stand in solidarity with survivors by wearing denim jeans on this day.
Denim Day is a worldwide, anti-victim blaming campaign that began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court. A rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. Denim Day is now a global movement to wear jeans every year on the last Wednesday in April as a symbol of protest and support for survivors.
