An update from the Marquette University Police Department on the apprehension of suspects involved in two incidents that occurred over the weekend:
Saturday, Nov. 14, 2037 W. Wisconsin, 5:25 p.m.
Two subjects approached a Marquette student as she exited her building and attempted to forcefully remove her purse. She resisted and called for help at which time the subjects fled. MUPD was in the area and quickly took both subjects into custody.
Sunday, Nov. 15, 911 N. 17th St., 5:35 p.m.
Two subjects were allowed entry into an apartment building and knocked on doors until they gained entry to a student’s apartment. The subjects stated they had a weapon, although no weapon was observed or located. The subjects obtained property and fled.
MUPD had observed the two suspects’ suspicious behavior and were on scene attempting to locate them when they fled the building. One was taken into custody. The second was chased off of campus, has been identified and is being sought by the Milwaukee Police Department.
(UPDATE: the second suspect was taken into custody Monday morning.)
These two incidents are not related and were quickly resolved by MUPD. The university’s policy is to issue a safety alert text whenever there is an ongoing threat to campus, and in this instance, MUPD quickly determined there was no threat.
