Yesterday evening, at approximately 8:44 p.m., a non-Marquette affiliated victim of a crime taking place several miles off campus, pulled up to the MUPD headquarters in the 700 block of 16th Street and sought medical attention. There was no threat to campus or to the community. The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. McCormick Hall leadership directed all students to stay inside or keep moving to their destination in order to ensure they were not in the way of the police. They continued to move students away from the scene and no students were ever in danger. The university’s policy is to issue a safety alert text whenever there is an ongoing threat to campus, and in this instance, MUPD quickly determined there was no threat. The safety of our community is top priority and we will continue to ensure our students, faculty and staff are informed in the case of any potential threat within our patrol zone.
