Bangladesh Student Association launches GoFundMe to support Avijit Hira’s family

As the university continues to mourn the loss of student Avijit Hira, the Bangladesh Student Association (BSA) at Marquette has launched a GoFundMe to help support Avijit’s family during this difficult time. The Marquette community is encouraged to support this effort by donating online. Any amount is appreciated.

About Avijit
Avijit was an instructor, a brother, an adventureran excellent researchera traveler, a smiling friend and a wonderful human being. He was a dreamer and was passionate about volunteering and working with Dream — a voluntary blood donation society in Bangladesh.

In fall 2019, Avijit came to the United States from a small town in Bangladesh to pursue his doctorate at Marquette and was aiming to get his master’s degree from the Opus College of EngineeringHe was planning to take his doctoral qualifying examination in the summer of 2021. Tragically, Avijit passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18. The community prays he finds peace on the other side.

Avijit came from a lower-middle class family and was a key earning member for his parents and other family members. Senior citizens in Bangladesh do not get any support from the government. Through the GoFundMe fundraiser, BSA hopes to alleviate some of the financial stress for Avijit’s family during this difficult time.
