The Marquette University Press will launch its new book, Milwaukee Rock and Roll, 1950-2000: A Reflective History, on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m. at Boswell Book Company (2559 N Downer Ave.).
The book was authored and edited by:
- Bruce Cole, catalog librarian/Cuje Music Collection librarian for Raynor Memorial Libraries
- Phillip Naylor, professor of history at Marquette
- David Luhrssen, managing editor of the Shepherd Express
The book tells the history of rock music in Milwaukee through a series of written, vocal and visual reflections from various voices— musicians, promoters, DJs, photographers, artists and audience members— who are all collectively committed to the sounds of a great city. Dan Johnson, retired chief photographer for Marquette, was the art editor.
Hosted by Boswell, the event will feature a book signing as well as a special performance by “Lil Rev and Friends,” Milwaukee’s award-winning folksinger and instrumentalist. The store will remain open until 10 p.m.
Founded in 1916, the press publishes scholarly works in philosophy, theology, history, and other selected humanities. Learn more at mu.edu/mupress.
