Student Oluwapelumi Oguntade created “OLUOMO WORLDWIDE,” a fashion brand through which she seeks to spread love to all cultures. A sophomore majoring in economics, Oguntade plans to expand her business using the prize money she received for winning first place in Social Innovation through the Brewed Ideas Challenge last spring.
Oguntade is originally from Nigeria — and she incorporates her culture in OLUOMO’s designs. Her clothing uses Nigerian fabrics including Ankara, lace, adiire and guinea brocade. “I wanted a one-stop-shop for different ethnic fashion and I had a deep longing to be surrounded by aspects of my culture that I love all the time, rather than occasionally,” Oguntade said.
