Marquette has record-breaking year for overall diversity

September 27, 2019

Fall 2019 enrollment, retention and graduation rate statistics now available

Official fall 2019 enrollment, retention and graduation rate statistics, compiled by the Office of Institutional Research and Analysis, are now available on the OIRA website. Marquette’s overall student enrollment is its highest since fall 2011 with undergraduate enrollment the highest since fall 1990. Marquette also has its most diverse student population ever and its second highest six-year graduation rate in its history.

The university currently enrolls 11,819 students, of which 25 percent are students of color, making it the most diverse student population in Marquette’s history. The undergraduate student body, numbering 8,515 represents 72 percent of total student enrollment and is 28 percent students of color, also the highest in Marquette’s history. Graduate and professional students total 3,304, of which 18 percent are students of color, representing the most diverse graduate student body Marquette has seen.

The first-year class of 1,974 students is 29 percent students of color which is up from 27 percent last year. The class is 24 percent first-generation, one of the highest percentages Marquette has seen and the highest since fall 2006. The first-to-second year retention rate of first-year students who started in fall 2018 is 90 percent, the highest since 2012. The six-year graduation rate of first-year students who started in fall 2013 is 82 percent, the second highest in Marquette history.

All statistics are accessible via OIRA’s interactive reports. The newly updated reports include student enrollment/FTE, first-year student profile, new transfer student profile, majors and minors, course enrollment and student credit hours, class size information, retention and graduation rates, and an update to the diversity and inclusion dashboards.
