2019 Summit on Poverty and SWIM Conference is Oct. 7-8

September 24, 2019

Marquette and the Social Development Commission (SDC) will co-host the 2019 Summit on Poverty & SWIM Conference presented by Ascension. The summit will be held on Oct. 7-8 at the Wisconsin Center.

The event will merge Marquette’s Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM) conference with SDC’s Summit on Poverty conference. Until now, the organizations held the events separately.

Through more than 30 workshops, the event seeks to create a safe space for well-informed, honest discussion. The conference theme is “Self-Reflection, Hope and Collective Impact.” Participants will be encouraged to evaluate their own beliefs, biases and how that may impact their work and the community. The conference will also examine local, state and national policies that impact poverty and trauma.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Marc Lamont Hill / Marc Lamont Hill (Day 1)
  • Shaili Jain MD (Day 1)
  • Monica White (Day 2)
  • William J. Barber, II (Day 2)

Registration is $200 for both days or $125 for one day. Scholarships are available to anyone who needs it. Registration covers all workshops, keynote presentations and lunch.
