The Commons project honored with construction and design awards

April 4, 2019

The Commons, Marquette’s newest residence hall that opened to nearly 900 freshmen and sophomores last August, has been honored with a slate of construction and design awards.

Following are the accolades The Commons has received to date:

The Daily Reporter — Top Projects
Top Projects is the Milwaukee-based commercial real estate newspaper’s chance to honor those in the industry — generals, subcontractors, architects, engineers and owners — whose projects met and exceeded expectations in 2018.

The Milwaukee Business Journal — 2019 Real Estate Awards
The local business publication will honor all 19 winners and announce its Project of the Year at a ceremony on May 2.

In Business Magazine — Best New Development or Renovation – Education
The Madison-based business publication’s annual Commercial Design Awards.

American Society of Interior Designers – Wisconsin — Gold, Higher Education
The Wisconsin chapter of the leading association to advance the interior design profession’s annual Design Excellence Awards.

“We are truly honored to be recognized for the excellent work the design, engineering and construction teams did on this landmark project for Marquette University,” said Lora Strigens, vice president for planning and facilities management. “From our own internal team to our outstanding partners at J.H. Findorff and Son Inc., Design Collective, Workshop Architects and the many subcontractors, this was truly a team effort of the highest degree.”

“The Commons has elevated the residential and dining experience for our community in ways that we had only hoped for when the project was first imagined,” said Dr. Xavier Cole, vice president for student affairs. “With its premier dining and gathering space, The Commons has become a new ‘living room’ for campus. We remain grateful for the investment in the residential experience for our students.”
